James P Kelleher, Mental Health Therapist /Counselor and Life Coach

Meet James

James P. Kelleher has been in private practice in Arizona since 2004 and has been a licensed therapist for over 20 years.

He is a graduate of New York University (NYU) Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development with a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology.

Having worked in New York City in the early years of his career and Scottsdale/Phoenix over the last ten years, James has extensive experience with diverse cultural backgrounds and has counseled clients with a wide range of challenges.

He frequently works with individuals and couples on relationship issues, stress, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma, and depression. James has extensive experience with managing sexual identity issues, including gay, lesbian, and transgender clients

James always uses a non-judgmental approach to his therapeutic methods, creating a strong trust with his clients. He starts by creating a positive sense of self and uses that foundation to overcome challenges that limit one’s full potential.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are among the techniques James often uses in working with his clients.

While therapy has always been the main focus of his career, James also has several years of experience teaching undergraduate courses at NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. He taught courses in group dynamics and mentored students earning their degrees in Counseling Psychology. James resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is the father of three.
